Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Beautiful couple gets married, and goes to Paris on the honeymoon. The City of Light! Romance! Little, tiny cups of coffee! Great, big flaky pastries!
Sure, it’s been done before. But it hasn’t been done by Jennifer Lopez, singer of the “Let’s Get Loud” national anthem, and Ben Affleck, one of the Batmen, until literally right now. They’re in Paris, the usual place one honeymoons, after they eloped in Las Vegas, the usual place where one elopes.
But Ben and Jen are doing things a little differently here. In the photos of the pair—she in a romantic red blousy dress, he in an actual suit and tie—they dined al fresco for dinner at Le Matignon Restaurant in the 8th. Alls normal here. But right out of frame, when the photo isn’t cropped on just them, one can spot Affleck’s two daughters, Violet and Seraphina. It’s kind of genius really. Paris is a lot of pressure for a couple—probably even for one as used to traveling the world as this one. And Paris on a honeymoon? You can feel like a failure if you’re not constantly, you know, being the most romantic you’ve ever been. With the kids along, you can just enjoy the architecture and feel comfortable in your love and blended family, twenty years in the making. Nothing to prove here.
